Sample Survey
Before we start, let's take a look at what a survey using MGRI looks like. The following are screenshots from the sample survey β you can download the sample file as a Qualtrics survey from the toolkit.
Screenshot 1: First name generator (Important Matters)
β This is the first of the two sample name generators in the survey. Here, respondents are asked to list names of people with whom they have discussed matters important to them (I will call this name generator "Important Matters" or "IM").
Screenshot 2: List overlap measure β selecting Academic & Career Matters names
β‘ Respondents are asked to select the names (from the list they generated), of people with whom they have discussed academic or career matters (I will call this "Academic & Career Matters" or "AC").
Screenshot 3: Second name generator (Academic & Career Matters)
β’ This is the second name generator. Here, respondents are asked to list the names of people with whom they have discussed academic or career matters, aside from those they listed in the previous section.
Screenshot 4: Randomly sampled names shown to respondent (sample list)
β£ On this page, the survey shows six randomly sampled names from the name lists, which will be used for name interpreters on the subsequent pages. I will call this list of randomly sampled names a "sample list." If respondents did not list more than six names, this page will show all names listed in the previous section. If respondents did not list any names, they will be led to the end of the survey.
Screenshot 5: First name interpreter β relationship type
β€ This is the first of two sample name interpreters. This question asks respondents to identify their relationships with each person in the sample list.
Screenshot 6: Second name interpreter β gender identity
β₯ This is the second name interpreter, where respondents are asked to identify the gender of each person in the sample list.
Screenshot 7: First density / alter-alter tie question
β¦ On the following pages, respondents are asked to identify whether each person in the sample list talks to or hangs out with the other people in the list independently of the respondents. Because we can calculate network density from this information, I will refer to these questions as "density questions." The following pages will show all density questions in the survey.
Density question β alter 2
Density question β alter 3
Density question β alter 4
Density question β alter 5
Survey end
β§ After completing the density questions, the survey is completed, and the response is recorded.
